On your own
By car or on foot from Kalambaka. All you need is to know which monastery is closed that day, what time each one shuts (Great Meteoron at 15:00), and to bring cash and cover your knees.
HOURS & CLOSURES →What hardly anyone explains: from Monday to Friday the six monasteries are never all open. St Stephen’s closes on Monday, Great Meteoron on Tuesday, Roussanou on Wednesday, Holy Trinity on Thursday, and Varlaam and St Nicholas on Friday. Only on Saturday and Sunday can you see them all. In winter it gets tighter: full table by season.
